I'm so excited to welcome Handloom by Tara Faughnan for Windham Fabrics to North Star Quilt Shop in four carefully curated fat quarter bundles. These fabrics are unlike anything else currently in the shop, and I think you're going to love sewing with them. Handloom is Tara's first woven fabric collection, developed over many months of experimenting with weave structures, fabric weights, and hundreds of color combinations to achieve a fabric with remarkable depth and a soft, textured hand.

What Makes Handloom Special?

Unlike printed quilting cottons, Handloom fabrics are yarn-dyed woven cottons.

That means the threads are dyed before they're woven together, allowing two different thread colors to interact and create subtle color shifts throughout the fabric.

The result is a fabric that feels rich, dimensional, and full of movement—even without printed designs.

If you read last week's Fabric 101 post about quilting cotton, wovens, and linen blends, Handloom is a wonderful example of why so many quilters love working with yarn-dyed fabrics.
